Victoria is delighted to be an honorary assistant at St Martin-in-the-Fields while living in Toronto. She is canonically resident in the Diocese of Algoma and has also assisted in the Diocese of Moosonee since her semi-retirement.
Her education consists of a B.A.(Hons) and a Th.M. from Trinity College, Toronto, and a M.Div. from the Yale Divinity School and the Berkeley Divinity School in New Haven, CT, USA. Having experienced a strong call to ministry in her teens, Victoria focused on Religious Studies, Philosophy and Theology in her University studies.
She was ordained a deacon in 1979 for the Diocese of Toronto and to the priesthood a year later. In 1994, she was the first woman in Canada and the fifth in the world to be consecrated a bishop. Since then, she has served in the diocese of Toronto (as Area Bishop of the Credit Valley), and as Diocesan Bishop of Edmonton, and of Christchurch, NZ. She has assisted in ministry in both Algoma and Moosonee dioceses. She has also served on some Anglican Communion groups and Commissions.
Victoria’s extracurricular activities include long distance walking and hiking. A particular favourite has been the 800 km pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain, which she has navigated 14 times. She is presently considering the longer Via Francigena pilgrimage as a possible next adventure.
At St Martin-in-the-Fields, Victoria deeply appreciates the liturgy, as well as the committed discipleship of the lay and ordained members of the parish.
